the 2010 shanghai expo kicked off in may and has attracted 246 countries and international associations to take part in it. in 184 days, it will show china’s achievements of modernization to the whole world with the theme of “better city, better life”. the 2010 shanghai expo is another important international event china, held after the beijing 2008 olympic games, and it is the first time that the world expo has been held in a developing country.
i got the notice that i could visit the expo together with my colleagues in may. on may 22nd, we set out for shanghai and entered the expo on may 23rd. there we enjoyed the brilliant scenery and different exotic cultures of the expo. the grand scale, unique design and rich content of the pavilions impressed everyone, wowed by such marvels as the traditional chinese pavilion, the fantastic spanish pavilion and romantic french pavilion, etc.
in addition, the use of state-of-the-art technology showed the environmental protection that was also a major theme of the expo. for example, the expo makes full use of solar energy, with a capacity of 468 million megawatts, reducing the fair’s potential emissions by 4,000 tons of carbon dioxide. also, there are over 1,000 new energy vehicles in the expo park, which will save 10,000 tons of fuel and reduce emissions by 118 tons of harmful substances and 284 million tons of greenhouse gases.
as an employee of chemchina, i feel that we should pay attention to environmental protection, which is also a key principle of chemchina’s development in the future. we need to have a clear picture in our mind that what we should do and how we will do it to protect the environment.
at the expo, some other multinational chemical companies took part and had booths there, such as dow company, basf and michelin company. they brought their new products and became an important part of the expo. compared with them, chemchina is still young and has a long way to go. however, we believe that chemchina will have more chances to develop itself and become stronger in the near future!
